Huginn and Muninn, Odin's Ravens (modernised as Hugin and Munin). This is a stylised version of Norse Urnes artwork, popular in the 11th and 12th century. Urnes Style is actually Scandinavian, but is named after the northern gate of the Urnes stave Church in Norway. Many scholars prefer to call it Runestone Style, as most of the objects are runestones in Uppland (Sweden).
In Norse mythology, Huginn (Old Norse for 'Thought') and Muninn (Old Norse for 'Desire' - in some translations, 'Memory') travel throughout Midgard collecting information for the All Father (Odin). This may account for much of Odin's seeming omniscience. They are both companions and embodiments of Odin himself. They are his eyes and ears, as well as his messengers. They would fly out every morning to observe and question anyone (including the dead), and in the evening, return and alight onto Odin's shoulders to whisper all that they had seen and heard that day.
In much of Northern European mythology, ravens are a creature of war, along with wolves and eagles. They are harbingers of battle and death. This makes Huginn and Muninn perfect companions for Odin, a god of many wars.

The Eddic poem Grímnismál mentions Odin’s thoughts on Hugin and Munin (translated version, 1866, Benjamin Thorpe):
Hugin and Munin
Fly every day
Over all the world;
I worry for Hugin
That he might not return,
But I worry for Munin more.
Huginn and Muninn make a very brief appearance in Marvel's Thor.
